We just can't have a new board and not have a WOT thread! I don't really have anything new to say, except that I read 'New Spring' a while ago and quite liked it, but thought it was too short and the ending was a little abrupt. I wish Robert Jordan would write a little faster... *sigh*

Maybe Arwen can rescue some of our old WOT posts. In the meantime, discuss all things WOT here. Smiley

I recently tried to make a friend read the series, but she abandoned it after reading the first few chapters of 'The Eye of the World' and finding them not 'fast-paced' enough. Angry I remember thinking the same about the beginning of 'EotW', but for some reason it still made me want to read on...

The first three, maybe even four, books are good.

I have several problems.

NOTE: The following COULD contain spoilers if you haven't read all the books

A.) There are several blatant examples of Tolkien copying. Trollocs are apparently Men who were mutiliated and altered == Orcs are Elves mutiliated and altered into a disgusting life form. Myrdraal are black figures riding black horses who command Trollocs == Ringwraiths. . .obvious. I coud go on and on.

B.) The whole Rand plot just gets too weird. Having a main character that starts to make me want to throw up is not good.

C.) Same with Mat.

D.) Perrin's is the only plot that makes me want to keep reading. I would give up, except that I want to know what happens to him.

E.) The books are too long. Tons could get cut out that would make them simpler and better written. The Tower is described by like five different people in the same words!!!

They are good books, but he should start writing something else. It's like Brian Jacques -- I feel like I've already read all new Redwall books. But when he turned to a new series, the Castaway series is so well written. Plots shouldn't be flogged to death and repeated over and over and over and over

Sorry for the vehemence. I believe that Robert Jordan is one of the better fantasy writers writing right now, it's just that the WOT series is getting old. Good thing it's over on the 13th book. He's ready to move on (said so in an interview) and he really should.

Has anyone heard anything about the last book?  I know someone else is finishing it since RJ is no longer among us.  I admit I stopped reading the books somewhere around book ten when all the characters became totally unbearable, but I would like to know how everything ends.
